On this regards, I think that the french doctrine since De Gaulle is right. US never protected Europe but their own interest (in Europe) (and to be fair, you could say the same about any country).

And indeed, I’ve been hearing all my life about the need for an European army, and nothing as really moved, and it’s a pitty.

      and nothing as really moved

That is not quite correct as the dutch forces are fully integrated into the german Bundeswehr’s command structure.

Yes, it’s not a whole lot but it shows some progress around the corner.

The idea that the US was a protector of Europe is false and must go.

The US presence - there 100000 troops under direct command - , are here to defend, and expand, their ideological and economic interests .

    Not for our protection.

No country has more overseas bases than the USA. They’re there to hold everyone hostage. Can’t wait for America to pull out and restore everyone’s freedom.

      restore everyone’s freedom.

Unless, after they’ve retreated, you are invaded by a more hostile country. Be careful what you wish for.

Most worldpowers do the same as USA if they can, and most are probably much worse.

add: Apart, from this I’m much in favor of a European Defense and be more independent
