The ongoing blockade of aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip and the renewed expansion of hostilities are “unacceptable,” Green Party leader Franziska Brantner said.
Brantner said the German government must “make clear its position on compliance with international humanitarian law.”
Populist politician Sahra Wagenknecht meanwhile demanded an immediate halt to Germany’s arms deliveries to Israel, describing its actions in the Gaza Strip as “a campaign of destruction and a gigantic war crime.”
Wagenknecht, who leads the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance, said the German government must immediately end its “policy of solidarity” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Can we please stop with this stupid language?
Condemned would have done the job just fine.
I don’t know why you need to use sLaMmEdthis is a textbook slam. no other word would be as accurate
No it is not. For starters when the Greens were in government just a few weeks back they did fck all about Israel starving Gaza. They also passed two resolutions together with AfD, CDU, CSU, FDP and SPD demanding to restrict academic freedom, freedom of expression, have scientists and artists surveilled by the interior intelligence and embed the IHRA definition of antisemitism as the legal standard, despite even its originators saying it must not be used for legal proceedings as it is unsuitable for that.
This is crocodiles shedding crocodile tears until proving by legal actions that they changed their position. However changing their position would also require to demand criminal investigations against parts of their current and former leadership i.e. the former foreign minister Baerbock for enabling Israel with weapons and doing business aiding the illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
i guess I really need to start doing the /s thang here :(
PSA: If you’d like to freely discuss issues related to Germany-Israel, consider moving to the !europe@lemmy.dbzer0.com community. Anti-Israel comments within this community are subject to various restrictions, some of them pretty extreme.
An “offensive” is a specific military term that only becomes meaningful when considering the military objectives that a war is being fought for in the first place.
The objective of war is to capture territory and literally and metaphorically enclose an enemy so they are starved of resources and have no choice but to surrender en masse, which hopefully minimizes unnecessary loss of life of combatants on both sides doing things like charging machine gun nests pointlessly.
Generals focus on offensives because if you can enclose an enemy force and deny them basic human necessities then there is no need to directly destroy each element of that enemy force to win, and subsequently little need to grind down your own forces in costly frontal assaults against heavily entrenched positions.
This is why the Palestinian Genocide is NOT a war, Israel already encloses and entirely controls Gaza, THERE ARE NO VALID MILITARY OBJECTIVES OR UNENCLOSED TERRITORY FOR THE IDF TO PURSUE IN AN “OFFENSIVE” THAT THEY DO NOT ALREADY POSSESS, this is an open air jail advertising they are upping their rate of murdering prisoners.
During a recent trip to Israel, (German Foreign Minister) Wadephul expressed understanding for the Israeli argument that aid deliveries should not serve Hamas and pledged German support.
I express understanding for the argument that the German Foreign Minister does not believe Palestinian lives have as much value as Israeli lives.
Why is Wagenknecht still relevant?
Because she’s still in politics. Her party barely didn’t make it into parliament but still received historically more votes than any other party in their first election.
Because she’s an useful idiot for a bunch of oligarchs.
I believe Wagenknecht directly translates to “Wiggle Knight”
isnt a Knecht more like a servant (to knights) but not a knight?
Fun fact: Knecht and knight share the same origin but actually mean very different things.
The German Knecht is a (lowly) servant while the higher class defined themselves by their ability to provide their own armor, weapons and horse as “Ritter” (lit. rider).
In English the same people defined themselves as their liege’s highest servants (=knights).
So in the end both “Knechte” and “knights” are indeed servants but the cultural context and their position in a feudal hierarchy are extremely different.
PS: The personal servant of a knight would be a “Knappe”, the German equivalent to a “squire”. Basically a knight’s apprentice…
It’s exactly the same in Dutch as in German with ‘knecht’ and ‘ridder’. Also, apparently ‘Ritter’ is a loanword from Middle Dutch ‘ridere’.
Yes, Wagenknecht literally means “wagon servant” (probably somone servicing coaches? It’s not really a word that exists).

That’s simply not true.
You CAN talk about Isreal, you can talk about Zionism, you can talk about genocide. There are however rules and nuance to what you can and cannot talk about such that the instance may maintain complaince with DACH region laws.
