Pretend like I’m a game dev who came here to ask the question, even though I have no intentions of developing a tycoon game at this time :P maybe I will in the future, but for now, I’m just curious about what people have to say! Reading these types of threads where people share their thoughts and have a civil discussion about video games is always fun for me.

The building / creative part of tycoon games has always been my favorite. Focusing heavily on that would be where I’d personally be interested in.

Random idea off the top of my head is a tycoon game where at a spaceship dock or manufacturer. Designing spaceships and the factory / dock its built in to meet customer needs. Starting smaller craft and working larger and larger.

      Billionaire Tycoon.

You start off making a webpage then reinvest in a car company then start building rockets and then try to take over the world.

Needs multiple endings. Maybe we can still get the good one somehow.

I have not gotten to Kerbal Space Program yet, but bolting a tycoon game to KSP would probably be cool. Wonder if they have a mod like that, or if the campaign is like that. All I know is wacky little green people called Kerbals, and very realistic physics even with all the simplifications needed to make a fun game that runs on things that are not NASA computers.

This is a more “wish” across Tycoon games; better and more sophisticated visualization (charts) for both operational metrics and financial performance.

Something even as simple as being able to drill drown between months / quarters / years in a time series. Being able to select to the time series (some games only have current year, previous year and the one before). Year on year (YoY) growth percentage charts.

Clearer separation between opex and capex would also be convenient. You might spend a lot in a given year on new initiatives (leading to a massive loss), but get significantly higher profits in the subsequent years.

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy or too complex, just a little bit more sophisticated than what most tycoon games have now.

Capitalism 3 or whichever hasn’t been made yet. Basically a real life simulator where you simulate an entire city’s economy(or as much of it as the player needs, like in football manager or whatever) And you start as a guy with a set amount of cash and you can do whatever. You start a business and set some goals and that’s pretty much it.

Not that many economy focused games out there, afaik. There’s offworld trading company, capitalism lab and stuff like Victoria 3, but they all have pretty restrictive rules and situations, if that makes any sense. Either wide and shallow or just too narrow.

Honestly, if I were looking for a challenge, I’d rather play an mmo rpg and try to play those economies than play any of the single player games.

Either that or a deeper version of Tropico. Where you can actually try and make your own paradise (or hell, of you want). I wanna be a benevolent autocrat and educate people into cooperation and shit. Or Give everyone UBI and see what happens… I dunno

Running a factory for a Samsung/Mitsubishi/Hitachi type megacorporation that builds everything from submarine nuclear reactors to rice cookers.

Now I’m thinking several factories/production lines at once, ultimately under the same company. Sort of like their own tycoon games, linked together by the big overarching game.
