US President Donald Trump ramped up his claims to Greenland on Wednesday, saying ahead of a visit by Vice President JD Vance that the United States needed to take control of the Danish island for “international security.”

It is not a Danish island. It’s a country that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, just like Denmark and the Faroe Islands. A Danish island would be an island in Denmark, like Funen, Ærø, or Bornholm.

Taking Greenland is a kin to taking Scotland from the UK, or Maine from the US of A. They’re autonomous, and trying to buy a country from us really brings up some colonial feelings, that we would much rather be done with.

All eyes are on Russia, the far larger American threat - not passively, in them not helping, but actively in them opposing us - doesn’t nearly get the attention it deserves.

It isn’t so. US is rarely aggressive to Europe and in 3-5 years the situation will settle down without much fuss. Russia will just kill you first physically and those who survive will be killed once more – mentally. And no, helping Ukraine with a few thousand howitzer shells and a few planes isn’t enough.

Russia, with a GDP the size of the Benelux, hasn’t even been able to conquer Ukraine, and I have to believe they’d be able to take on the European Union?

Meanwhile, the US, the world’s largest economy, has military bases all over the EU, the EU militaries by and large depend on the US and they are openly threatening us.

        Which is more dangerous?

Russia. Because Russia is actually trying and the US hasn’t done anything military aggressive and I don’t have a reason to believe that they will.

The US hasn’t done anything militarily aggressive yet. There is every reason to believe this will change, considering they are openly threatening as much (Trump saying he wants to take Greenland, still part of Denmark, by force if necessary).

I love your optimism. The fascism and and reorganization of world power will just go away. That seems about as likely as a literal alien invasion happening within the next week. (And I mean extraterrestrial)

I’ll try to explain. Fascism is a complicated thing. Much more complicated than any type of democracy where you plan only for a few years ahead and don’t deal with your mistakes because the next government should do it. And next government just ignores everything and blames the previous one.

Fascism is based on some ideology. So you need one. No, just forbidding things isn’t fascism. It is idiotism.

And what do I want to say? Trump and his crew are too dumb to create or adopt any ideology and too incompetent to build fascism. I wouldn’t trust them to build even an outdoor toilet.

In a few years there will be no more Trump.

While I think @Lemmist is much too optimistic, I can’t help the feeling that these people will still trip over their own feet at some point. Their staff consists with second-rate, reality-ignoring sycophants and you just can’t keep reality at bay forever.

Maybe not, but you can certainly stand up a fascist state with it, even if it doesn’t last forever. Alternatively, the people in the wings of Trumps admin pulling the strings, will put competent christiofascists in charge once he’s gone. They do have a large playback afterall.

Who do you think is pulling his strings? The people who will be left in charge when the useful idiot isn’t useful anymore, the fascists. Trump is just the mouthpiece, the current face, he’s not the one in charge, he just thinks he is.

It just makes me sick to my stomach when I see their names in the news. I have the same feeling like when you are around creepy persons that have a pedo or sexual agressor vibe to them. I wish they could just stay in their countries and be banned from Europe. But is is not how toxic people function, they do not stay in their lane.

Nobody in America supports this, other than a few fringe lunatics in the orange hitler cult. Trump is psycho and obviously working for Putin. This really just looks like he’s being puppeted off a cliff.

Talk to MAGA folks. They don’t think we need allies or trading partners. They think the USA is big and strong enough to not only stand alone, but stand against the entire planet.

It’s hard to get across how ignorant these people are. Their information comes 100% from Fox News, Facebook, friends, family and like minded people in their echo chamber.

I live in Florida. During hurricanes we literally live and die by NOAA. And day to day, we work and plan our lives around the National Weather Service (a subset of NOAA). Posted on NextDoor.com about the administration slashing NOAA and “have fun paying for private weather service, you voted for it”. (Perhaps less snarky than comes across here.)

You would be astonished, at least I was, by the outpouring of gall and hate I received. I won’t try to relate it all, but even faced with personal consequences, the answer was, “Fuck all that and fuck you! Good job Trump!” That was the most “popular” post of the week. Oh my, the replies would not die off. Imagine hating on the government weather service!

      Best responses were a tie:

One lady proud to pay for her AccuWeather subscription. “Where do you think AccuWeather gets their data?” “I’m not arguing with people like you!” LOL, wanted to add, “Not arguing with someone that pays for free weather data.”

One guy went off about vets, in reply to no one but the post, for some reason I can’t begin to ascertain. Wish I could inject what I know about Trump and vets straight into his brain, leave him a twitching mess of cognitive dissonance.

Maybe cognitive dissonance is what I triggered? Just thought of that and I may be onto something.

(I use Weawow BTW. Weather is very important to me and they got it going on. Even has sun and moon info. You can choose your weather provider (I use NWS) but you can choose from 6 others. Norway even! Only data I wish they added was tidal, lol, and a compass would be nice. Free app of course, but I’d be glad to pay a one-time fee.)
