Posted a related question over here: https://discuss.online/post/16758155
Wanted to promote the chat room, but wasn’t sure where a good place is, if the fedi* communities are appropriate or if matrix doesn’t “count” as part of the Fediverse.
At any rate, neat that you’ve got cinny.discuss.online! I like that there’s multiple frontends for Matrix, centralized services like Discord hate alternate frontends, because you can just skip all the ads they try to shove down your throat.
Thanks!
It’s considered part of it. Projects on the Fediverse use Matrix for discussions (besides Pixelfed using Discord). I’m not seeing much push for XMPP.
I have old.discuss.online and plan to add more front-ends for Lemmy soon.
I tried matrix a while back, and it felt like using an “early-access” game. It just didn’t quite work as it should
How long ago did you try it? Did you try an other federated chat clients?
It does have some rough edges that make adoption difficult but once you persavere beyond those poinpoints I start to like it. I had considered switching to something else like XMPP but I already have so many channels on Matrix I’d hate to try to get people to switch. I’m not certain I want to run to different services even if I could bridge them.
Oh dang, that must’ve been two or so years now that I’m thinking about it. I’m going to give it another shot!
Great! Let us know how you like it or if you need any help. You can find me @jgrim@discuss.online.
