DEI does not influence hiring or firing. The right intentionally conflates DEI, which is creating an inclusive work environment, with affirmative action. The latter was a set of policies that required special consideration for marginalized groups when hiring, and was repealed by SCOTUS in 2023.

As a former corporate manager, I can say first hand that DEI has been a focus in respectable institutions for much longer than the term has existed. The best way to stagnate your business is to hire a bunch of like-minded people and make them all think and act alike.

    a DEI

    A diversity, equity and inclusion?

I’ll not mince words here, using the acronym like this is purposeful with the intent to undermine the entire point of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

If that is not your intent, Don Dickle, then consider rephrasing and never using such a phrasing again.

This isn’t a grammar issue. In fact, GP is mad that the OP used proper grammar, and is using the letter “A” as a mallet to claim that OP is using DEI as a derogatory term.

The people on Lemmy are programmed to seek victimhood however they can. They believe that being a victim makes them righteous in some way.

You are unhelpfully combative. DEI factually is a term that has been made a victim of twisting and manipulation. Flickerman was well within their rights to point out that this malformation of meaning has gone so far as to influence the basic grammatical use of the term.

You will notice that Flickerman even gives OP an out, admitting that their misusage of the term might be unintentional, likely skewed by years of propaganda. That is, OP could be entirely innocent and misled.

Therefore, ironically, the individual here who is truly reacting programmatically to seek victimhood, is you. :)
