  • Why do you need to boycott instances?

To reduce their power and influence and encourage more “decentralized” postings. A big reason why other instances defed from the rest of the Triad but not .ml is because “some of the biggest comms are on there”. It should be up to the instance admins and the community under them to decide who and when to defederate and they shouldnt be “forced” to maintain federation with a toxic instance just because big comms and traffic is on there

.ml is also a problem because it’s the admins and mods enforcing a certain narrative, we’re not talking about an instance that just isn’t taking care of rouge users or something

A better idea is to let people know what they are saying, bring it out in the open

That’s what this comm is for, multiple approaches can be taken at a time

not by trying to ban opinions or misinformation.

“A lie crosses the globe while the truth is getting its shoes on”, you wouldn’t be saying the same thing I bet if there was a literal Nazi instance trying to spread their “opinions”

Opinions are fine if you’re allowed to criticize them as well, but .ml does not allow that. It’s also good to ban actual toxic misinformation and propaganda.

  • Don’t worry he’s fine, another person DMd me who has direct contact with him and he has actually simply quit Lemmy/social media.

I haven’t posted it because the only way I know it’s legit is because the user copy pasted FSs response directly and it’s def something he’d write imo, but…hmmm…I’d rather not go into detail on it let’s just say that LMAO

    But he’s probably fine

  • The flagship Lemmy instance, lemmy.ml, part of the Tankie Triad. The other instances are Hexbear.net and lemmygrad.ml, these 2 are much much louder and worse about it and have been pretty widely defederated from many instances at this point.

But because lemmy.ml is run by the main lemmy devs (Who are hardcore tankies btw), host a number of official Lemmy comms and try to be more subtle about it via admin/mod action (as documented) most instances treat them with “kid gloves” and don’t defed

If you’re open to moving instances (or just having your current account as a designated NSFW account) I’d recommend trying out Lemmy.cafe which defed’s from the entire triad

You can do a whole instance block from the profile settings on the webui, however, it should be thought more of like a mute rather than a block. You won’t see stuff from them, but they can see your stuff and interact with it (i.e. they can downvote you, shit talk you) you just won’t see it. (it’s been brought up a bunch as one of the big Lemmy issues).

Now if you want to have fun with it and poke the bear a bit, you can try to speedrun a site ban from them, which unlike a “block” actually does prevent all .ml users from seeing your posts and comments
