It’s a common trope amongst the big tankies “[Instance (usually .world or .ee)] is full of censorship and Reddit-like mods unlike us where you can be free!”
Ohhh I thought you were talking about an instance block, yea for sure blocking individual comms is a lot better in that case lol
Hell yeah! Fuck authoritarianism everywhere be it US flavored or China flavored or Russia or Israel
a) Yea because Drump is SO much better /s and b) wholly off topic to what this post is actually about.
While I do kind of agree, I worry if there’s not enough resistance to them “in the wild” on the Lemmy-verse we might end up with a rep for being “A place for tankies” or even “Voat 2.0”
I’ve already seen some comments in the past on Reddit along the lines of “I tried Lemmy, but it seems to be just Tankies there”
A perfect example of the bias I just saw
For merely being earnest and saying “tankie instances” caught a 30 day ban within an hour
Compare and contrasted with Brains 24 hour ban for what they’ve been saying…is telling
The ceasefire ended and Israel resumed Israel ended the ceasefire and resumed their genocide “war”
The comment was on a post with an image of the horrors Israel is commiting
Why do you need to boycott instances?
To reduce their power and influence and encourage more “decentralized” postings. A big reason why other instances defed from the rest of the Triad but not .ml is because “some of the biggest comms are on there”. It should be up to the instance admins and the community under them to decide who and when to defederate and they shouldnt be “forced” to maintain federation with a toxic instance just because big comms and traffic is on there
.ml is also a problem because it’s the admins and mods enforcing a certain narrative, we’re not talking about an instance that just isn’t taking care of rouge users or something
A better idea is to let people know what they are saying, bring it out in the open
That’s what this comm is for, multiple approaches can be taken at a time
not by trying to ban opinions or misinformation.
“A lie crosses the globe while the truth is getting its shoes on”, you wouldn’t be saying the same thing I bet if there was a literal Nazi instance trying to spread their “opinions”
Opinions are fine if you’re allowed to criticize them as well, but .ml does not allow that. It’s also good to ban actual toxic misinformation and propaganda.
.ml is a tankie instance not because of the bulk of the users, I do not judge any user, .ml or otherwise, until I have seen them or seen evidence of them commenting Tankie ideology or defending it.
.ml is deemed a tankie instance because the admins and many of the mods not only are hardcore tankies themselves but also enforce the ideology throughout their instance via admin/mod action
.ml is the most subtle of the Tankie Triad and because they host some official Lemmy support comms often get treated with “kid gloves” by the other instances and don’t get defed’d from like the rest of the tankie triad does (Hexbear and Lemmygrad)
Checkout !meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works if you want to see more
Actually, because the .ml admins block that comm so you can’t see it, you’ll need to use this link through another instance: https://lemmy.world/c/meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works
some ml user are decent / don’t know where they registered.
Yea, that’s one reason I don’t mute them myself, I try to steer those users away by showing them this comm. If you want to help, you need to give them this kind of link that routes through another instance because (the irony) they censor their users from seeing it: https://lemmy.world/c/meanwhileongrad@sh.itjust.works
I am actually not blocked from .ml that I know of
I was…for 2 months, for 2 glorious months I could post what I want without interference.
Then one of my memes the other week must’ve got to davel because within like an hour of it being posted they un-site-banned me and then manually banned me from like only the top 10 or 15 comms lololol
Excellent! Lol just FYI though for you and anyone else who see, instance blocks should be more thought of as a mute rather than an actual block, .ml users can still see your posts and comments and interact with them (i.e. downvote brigade, talk shit) you just won’t be able to see it
If you want to have a bit of fun and get an instance block that actually works you should try speed running a site ban LMAO
Lol from time to time I think about that early Q TNG episode where Q puts humanity on trial (the first time) and one of his “exhibits” was when “humanity controlled their militaries with drugs”
I laughed it off years ago as a “yea right, like that’ll happen” now…I’m not so sure lolol
Same, I’m surprised nobody’s put together an infographic on “EU stuff Americans can buy”
I do know that Aldi’s if there’s one near you is a good one to shop at, afaik all their US locations are owned by the original German parent company
Don’t worry he’s fine, another person DMd me who has direct contact with him and he has actually simply quit Lemmy/social media.
I haven’t posted it because the only way I know it’s legit is because the user copy pasted FSs response directly and it’s def something he’d write imo, but…hmmm…I’d rather not go into detail on it let’s just say that LMAO
But he’s probably fine
hexbear is but hear it’s ideologically wonky.
Understatement of the year LMAO
lemmy.ml to understand they purposely are a socialist communist niche community so they basically remove content they don’t want.
Uh nah, they’re tankies, they’re authoritarian communists essentially
No worries at all lol
It would be a new login (you can think of Lemmy instances as email providers (Gmail, yahoo, aol etc) if it’s easier.
You can export your subscriptions, saved posts etc from lemmynsfw.com/settings (at the bottom) and reimport them on the new instance (in the same place). The big things that can’t be exported though is your post and comment history
True, but over what though is the question? If you do a site ban with purge it removes content and then you can see that in the modlog
I went through their profiles a bit and there’s nothing really in there that’s against the tankies.
So either the modlog is messing up/being messed with and missed content removals or davel has started going through people’s profiles or voting history and site banning them on nothing but vibes now LMAO
The flagship Lemmy instance, lemmy.ml, part of the Tankie Triad. The other instances are Hexbear.net and lemmygrad.ml, these 2 are much much louder and worse about it and have been pretty widely defederated from many instances at this point.
But because lemmy.ml is run by the main lemmy devs (Who are hardcore tankies btw), host a number of official Lemmy comms and try to be more subtle about it via admin/mod action (as documented) most instances treat them with “kid gloves” and don’t defed
If you’re open to moving instances (or just having your current account as a designated NSFW account) I’d recommend trying out Lemmy.cafe which defed’s from the entire triad
You can do a whole instance block from the profile settings on the webui, however, it should be thought more of like a mute rather than a block. You won’t see stuff from them, but they can see your stuff and interact with it (i.e. they can downvote you, shit talk you) you just won’t see it. (it’s been brought up a bunch as one of the big Lemmy issues).
Now if you want to have fun with it and poke the bear a bit, you can try to speedrun a site ban from them, which unlike a “block” actually does prevent all .ml users from seeing your posts and comments
Ah, it seemed from the news it had just “expired”, I’ll update it thanks
