The funny part is that there’s very little reason to actually buy a barrel of lube. Where I live, everyone used AOL Instant Messenger, or AIM for short. It was popular with teens because it offered chat rooms, but that meant it was also a popular hunting ground for predators. Yeah, the issue is that if you don’t run ads, Twitch will just put their own in before your stream starts. And this absolutely kills any sort of discoverability for your channel; If new viewers have to watch 90 seconds of ads before they can even see your stream, they’ll just bail.
So for the sake of growing your channel, it’s actually better to run ads. Because then your viewers aren’t immediately blasted by a ton of unskippable ads as soon as they start your stream.

Some people seem to think that adding a license to their comments will prevent LLMs from using them for training data. It won’t actually help at all, and is born out of a fundamental misunderstanding of how copyright law works.
It got to be pretty popular for a while when Reddit was announcing that they’re selling content as LLM training data. But these days it has become clear that it’s just virtue signaling. Most of us just side-eye the commenters who do it, because it’s basically the Reddit equivalent of one of those “Facebook will begin using all of your data unless you post this status on your page” chain letters.

I’m sure it was at least partially intended to drive the point home that nobody is safe. Drag racing is a form of race where competitors line up at a starting line and compete to be the first across the finish line. It’s unique in that most races begin with the cars already moving, and typically involve longer races, multiple laps, cornering, etc… In contrast, drag racing is on a straight quarter mile track, which means it is a competition focused almost entirely on acceleration and top speed.

It’s a drag racing reference. Drag strips are traditionally a quarter mile long, and there are over 50 supercars that have made it in less than 10 seconds. Considering the fact that the Fast and the Furious series is all about racing and cars, it’s clearly a drag racing reference.
One of the big issues with localization is that it tends to destroy references like this. If you change the distance into another unit (like kilometers) you also destroy the drag racing reference.
A lot of those miss the original point though. Drag racing strips are traditionally a quarter mile long. Converting it to kilometers (or changing it to a half mile instead) destroys the drag racing reference.

Yeah, there’s a reason the juror box has been referred to as the third box of liberty.
The four boxes of liberty are a 19th century concept. They are the soap box, (making your disagreement publicly known, and trying to gather others who agree), ballot box, (voting out corrupt officials), juror box, (refusing to convict for unjust laws), and lastly the ammo box. Typically used in that order.
Basically, protest starts by voicing your disagreement. That’s your soap box. You make your disagreement publicly heard, and try to gather others who also disagree with the government. When you have enough people gathered together, it becomes a peaceful protest.
But when that doesn’t work, You vote for representatives that will be able to make decisions you agree with. The hope is that they’ll enact change for the better once they’re in office. Basically, get rid of the corrupt officials who are working against the public.
Third, if the government has enacted laws you disagree with (because you’re not being represented, and they have ignored your peaceful protests), then you move on to the jury box. Refuse to convict when you believe the justice system is unjust.
Lastly, if the government still refuses to change and is continuing to prosecute people for unjust laws (for instance, secret police bypassing the jury box by skipping a fair trial) then you move onto the ammo box as a form of protest. Because if the government has refused to allow for peaceful protest via the first three boxes, then that only leaves the fourth box.
As the government becomes more and more tyrannical, you start using more and more of your boxes. Hopefully you never need to reach for the fourth box.
