I believe that tires will go a long way in terms of wear and longevity (as we’ve seen in the past 100 years), but not sure if more grip and less rolling resistence (efficiency) is possible.

Loved my little Rover 25 with the 1.4 K series. Incredibly fun car and super underrated. Now I drive a high milage hero mk 1 Skoda Octavia with the venerable 1.8T remapped. It’s a barge and a little ropey, but it’s really funny how I can take even modern cars from light to light. I would like something with fewer doors though, maybe a Porsche boxter is up next. A step up from that would be a 993 or 996, but those are pretty pricey. With an unlimited budget I’d probably go for a GMA t.50 or t.33.
