  • People are petty as fuck. One person receives one citation and they become salty and begin seeking out and reporting every single violation they can find, which just makes it awful to live in.

This is the truth. No one wants to volunteer to do anything or be on the board, but the second the board enforces any rules, the homeowners become self-conscious and start pointing the finger, making everyone’s lives worse. The trick is to READ THE BYLAWS and don’t buy a house if you don’t like the bylaws.

  • Let me get this straight. You bought a house owning a dog knowing you couldn’t have a fence OR you bought a dog owning a house knowing you couldn’t have a fence. And not only that, you’re entire neighborhood did the same thing, and you are mad at the HOA?

It doesn’t make sense. Yeah, the rule is stupid. But, like, you did it to yourself. Do what you need to do to have the bylaws changed.

  • While they can’t block a family of color who qualifies for a loan, from buying a house, they can prevent them from moving in, through background check requirements or simply by using stupid rules to harass them into leaving.

That’s fucked up that that is happening near you. This doesn’t happen in my subdivision. I positive of this, because my wife is on the board and I attend every meeting. The board doesn’t get to decide who gets to buy a house. Also, no violations are ever given without full board approval. We live in a somewhat diverse neighborhood.
