Unfortunately I found it doesn’t always work so smoothly. It didn’t on my PS2 no matter how much I tried. Crossover is still needed in some cases I guess.

Doesn’t always work on older hardware. My PS2 doesn’t connect to my new PC despite my PC having Gigabit Ethernet which can do auto switching.
It should but it seemingly just doesn’t and to connect the PS2 to my PC a crossover adapter is needed or it just doesn’t connect.
I’ve seen it before but it’s definitely niche.
Doesn’t always work for all systems. You might still need a crossover for connecting to older systems. I.e. My PS2 for FTP access of the hard drive (I don’t have that Fancy EasyHDD thing).
You never know if you will be though. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I’m pretty sure you have to cross the blue and brown wires too.
Phaser on the highest setting, disintegrates the person with the trident before they even know what hit them.
If you’re a bit more old-fashioned a sawed off shotgun works well too, albeit much more bloody.
