Build a fucking electric high speed train from Windsor through Toronto to Montreal. Obviously. Until this happens, Canada is simply not taking climate change seriously.
My wife and I commute via bicycle every day, 8 km one way in NL of all places.
Things is that stats show that people who decide to ride are people who would otherwise take the bus, there’s very little converts from car to bike (although I was one before I worked from home, bike when I could, car otherwise since the bus wasn’t realistic with my night shifts).
In BC, the provincial government is pushing both, quite strongly.
I’m always proud of my province every time I check the whole map there’s chargers everywhere even in the boonies.
I wish work from home was still a big thing. Reduces so much driving.
A couple of studies have shown this doesn’t reduce car trips nearly as much as some would think and in some areas actually increases car trips due to less clumping of errands, less adherence to rush hour times, and an increase in delivery services like ubereats and amazon.
The only solution to traffic is alternatives to traffics like transit, and nearly every form of transit is more energy effdcient than private EVs. EVs are still good, but electrified transit should be a bigger focus.
At least it’s still a thing. Canada should definitely push WFH legislation that incentivizes businesses to go that direction when it’s an option though.
The EV rebates are a joke though. I would imagine the lions share of new electric cars wouldn’t qualify.
Uhhh… I got like 14k off the sticker price of my EV (Ioniq) in 2020 because of these… humourous(?) rebates.
If you scrap a gas guzzler and buy a new EV, you buff your barter stats and end up maxing out your inventory space pretty quick.
It’s possible they nerfed this hack in the latest release though.
That’s actually awesome!
The max MSRP for a car or SUV is $50k to qualify. I don’t think there would be a lot of SUV EV’s that would come in under that price point, especially with vehicle prices right now
