    Sorry for the English, just thought I’d add some context from the u.s.

    The term started off in African American culture to mean being socially conscious and aware of systemic racism, sexism etc. It then started to be used by mainstream progressive culture especially on twitter. Then the right wing started to use it as a derogatory term for all the recent social progress that scared them. Now progressives have stopped using it as much while the right has made it a core of there platform to “stop the woke agenda” which sounds a lot better then “let’s go back to being racist, sexist, and homophobic”. Sad to hear the derogatory form has been exported to Germany
