Burnout is a truly horrible thing! I hope he rests, recovers, and finds his passion again.
Funny how I use TB on desktop as long as it exists and always wanted a android version and I even knew that is was in development and still this is the first time I heard that it was released. A little cross promotion wouldn’t hurt.
I’ve been using it, it’s basically still K9 mail with minor changes. It doesn’t really have the features you see in the desktop client.
They might promote it more when it’s got the features you’d expect from a mobile client, like proper search with a local index.
Still using k9mail since fairemail causes me oom issues.
I still find myself looking for other emails tho since i need something that supports mailing list stuff better.
What OOM issues have you seen so far?
Now is the time to switch to Librewolf, I just wish there was a Librebird.
There’s Betterbird, though I don’t know exactly what makes it better, except for still allowing to manually load external content in encrypted mails, which Thunderbird just removed for whatever stupid reason.
Betterbird just adds features. It isn’t focused on privacy & security AFAIK.
I’ve used K9 for over a decade, until at some point work required me to have an exchange account. At that time I switched to Nine, since outlook is hot garbage.
Are there alternatives to Nine? I’ve used that for several years for my personal email because of exchange, but it has had issues the last couple of years. Not open source as far as I know.
Unless you run your own davmail server and connected to that instead, probably not.
I’m not aware of any alternatives, but then again I didn’t experience any problems so never bothered to look either.
Thunderbird… now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a loooong time
It’s a pretty popular desktop client, and the migration of K9 into Tbird for Android was a good thing.
I thought they were supposed to change it at some point but as of my last update it still has the k9 branding, is f-droid just behind?
They’ve stuck it under its own app entry. Both K-9 and Thunderbird end at 8.2 for suggested releases.
I just installed Thunderbird, looks identical, just a rebrand. They’re so identical the import function is
seamlessmostly seamless. Not sure if it’s a quirk of GrapheneOS or just the way things are now, but for gmail accounts, you’ll need to go in to something like Settings > Account > fetching mail > incoming server and then hit next.
This will dump you back in to the google web login auth page, so you can approve the app for each account.
Otherwise, the sync and alert settings are copied just fine, so it’s good enough.
Oh I didn’t even give it my old gmail, I refuse to let it infect my graphene device even that way lol. I’m sure it’ll be fine for me, there’s nothing in that inbox right now anyway, I use it for the most private email I have (I have like 4 active depending on who is asking for it, work gets the tuta, some buying is done with the proton, extra invasive services get a gmail, and things that are just outright spam like brick and mortar stores they get a gmail that hasn’t been even accessed in about 7yr. Close friends who have pgp set up can get the one I run through tbird/k9, nobody else.)
