For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, first up is Red Rooms (2023), a French-Canadian thriller about a woman who becomes obsessed with a serial killer on trial, living out an elaborate morbid fantasy in her head as she feeds her screen addiction. She decides to solve the case herself, and drama ensues from there. This is by far the best-known and best-regarded work to date of director Pascal Plante. Reviews compare this to the works of David Fincher and Michael Haneke. Great reviews for this one, so let’s check it out.

Next is One, Two, Three (1961), a Cold War-themed comedy from Billy Wilder, the guy behind Some Like It Hot (1959), Sunset Blvd. (1950), and Ace in the Hole (1951), among others. A Coca-Cola executive based in West Berlin has to look after his boss’s daughter, but she’s married to a communist; personal and political tensions intermingle from there. This is considered one of Wilder’s best films. Stalin shouldn’t have stopped at Berlin.
