A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration’s mass firings of probationary federal employees were likely unlawful, granting temporary relief to labor unions and nonprofits suing to stop the cuts.
Judge William Alsup found the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lacked authority to order dismissals and ordered acting OPM head Charles Ezell to testify about a Feb. 13 call directing agency heads to fire workers.
Around 200,000 probationary employees (those who have less than a year on the job), including 15,000 in California, provide essential services.
A further evidentiary hearing is set for March 13.
That would be an important finding if the law actually meant shit.
For me this is two posts down from an article about a bunch of probationary employees at NOAA getting fired. So maybe they’re not fired. Or maybe they’ll come into work and just won’t get paid later. Or, or, or… who knows.
TBF we haven’t yet found out if the law matters, because the law is too slow.
Justice delayed is justice denied. And we’re pushing half a decade of no consequences for some of his crimes.
The law doesn’t mean shit.
If the law is too slow to help then it doesn’t matter.
