Haben sie doch schon, nennt sich Wahlprogramm der Union.
I don’t understand the translation. It translates to against Germans, against criminal Germans getting deported, and against Germans returning from holiday making.
I think the intention is against immigrants, but it still doesn’t make much sense to me. Can anyone comment? Especially about the tightening of residence permits. As someone who moved here who wants to become a citizen, it’s important to me that I have a path to residency as soon as possible so I’m not reliant on my company’s good will and fortune to stay in Germany and pursue becoming a German.
EDIT: OH NO! I ate the onion but in another language hahaha. That’s great! Thanks everyone for the clarification, the literal translation was correct and I assumed the worst (partially because they want to implement the worst). Thank you and again, my bad. Ich lerne Deutsch langsam.
Postillion is a satirical newspaper, similar to the onion.
This is not actual news, but refers to the immediate plan to mass deport and discriminate against people without German passports and “not real Germans”, for which the CDU worked together with the openly fascist AfD in the federal parliament, just a few weeks before the election.
In general German politics have been moved from a balance between left and right to a slim left (Die Linke), a center right minority (Greens, SPD) and a far right (CDU) to fascist (CSU, AfD) majority.
Violence against people perceived as “not German” is at an all time high and violent crime is attributed to “Foreigners”, no matter how “German” the perpetrator actually is. In the current case a White German committed a terror attack, but since it is not really possible to make any claims of him not being “real German” the media and political attention quickly moved away.
Because of the failure of the now center right, to pose any proper opposition to Fascism, Germany is on the best way to decline into Fascism again. Instead the now center right parties SPD and Greens even adopted anti-immigration anti-refugee “tough on crime” politics, which further strengthened the fascists. If you are from a “White country” you will probably be fine. If you are from a “Brown country”, which in this case includes anything south from the Alps, you should seriously consider a Plan B and always have things ready to leave the country on short notice, if things escalate.
How come you consider the greens center right? Center left or maybe even center I’d get, but center right?
Passing a “tough on asylum seeker law” a week after the mass deportation plans of the AfD were publicized in Jan. 2024.
Making a “law and order 10 point plan” after the stabbing in Solingen.
Passing of “anti-antisemitism” resolutions that aren’t legally binding, but demand the interior intelligence to screen scientists and artists and deny them funding, if they are not “without a doubt not antisemitic”, despite strong criticism that this directly violates the freedom and independence of science and arts, which is one of the core principals of the Grundgesetz.
Being divided over asking the constitutional court to rule on whether the AfD is constitutional or should be banned for being unconstitutional, with the dominant right wing of the party working to delay such a constitutional procedure against the AfD.
For me these are indications of being on the right side of the center. My understanding of the political center in Germany would be 2009-2021 SPD/CDU. With the SPD being center to center-left and the CDU being center-right to right. Of course this has shifted, with every party that is in the Bundestag except for die Linke having shifted strongly to the right or even far right over the past years. So for someone who is 18 and voted the first time this year, the concept of what is center in German politics probably looks different. And maybe for someone who is much older than me, Merz is closer to the center.
I get that, but I’d still argue that these don’t overweigh the rest of their program. But hey, everyone can have a different opinion (unless we get black/brown)
Der Postillion is a satire magazine, similar to The Onion. This is not (yet?) a real plan by Merz.
